Environmental taxes

As part of their public consultation process, the States of Jersey asked for opinions and views regarding a document they had prepared about raising further 'environmental' taxes in the island.

They made it sound as if things like 'home insulation grants, waste recycling and improving the bus service' were the mainstays of the island's environmental efforts, as if they were optional extras to island life and as if they represented nothing but pure expenses to the island's collective purse. This therefore allowed the implication that, in these straightened financial times, maybe we should just let all this cease after 2009.

After canvassing suggestions and proposals among the J-CAN membership, Mark Forskitt put together this J-CAN response, in time for the 6th July deadline. Please follow the links to read the original document and our response.
